We Made a Mixbook Photobook!

I don’t know about you guys but my phone is approximately 98% pictures of the dogs. My cloud is full (and to be perfectly honest, I barely even understand the cloud) and sometimes I miss peeling up that sticky clear film to put an actual photo (developed in 3 days from Rite Aid) underneath it.

On a personal note, I almost missed a blog post this week due to a tooth issue. I have been in excruciating pain all week and won’t get in to the dentist for a couple weeks. However, I could not wait to share how great this photobook turned out!

I got an offer from Mixbook through Petsmart to make a free photobook and it turned out beautifully!

For reference, my exact order was: Dog Pet Book by Black Lamb Studio – Square – 8.5×8.5″ – Matte – Hardcover – Everyday Semi-Gloss with 19 pages

Creation

The hardest part of creating the book was choosing which photos I would use! There are a few that always stick out in my mind so I tried to use those. However, I could fill about 1,000 of these!

There is a category for “Dog Pet Books” which are specifically made with dog designs (graphics, text). I liked the bright colors on the one by Black Lamb Studio.

With text, you can edit the colors, remove their prepopulated suggestions and add your own.

For photos, you can upload from your desktop or your phone. They even let you bulk upload. Once the photo is dropped into the space, you can edit it from there – rotation, filters, opacity, zoom, page fill. They really have a nice array of options for that.

Don’t like the background they chose? You can change it! They have a library or you can even upload your own. Want to add a sticker? That’s available as well – even custom!

Another cool feature – you can invite others to collaborate on the book and order their own copy!

Speaking of books – here’s a gift guide for the dog loving readers in your life!

Some Options

They have themes for so many of life’s moments – holidays, year in review, birthdays… I am not a cook but you could make your own cookbook if you are so inclined.

Choose from:

  • 3 book types – hardcover, softcover and lay flat
  • 3 shapes and 4 sizes
  • Glossy or matte covers
  • 3 paper types

Shipping

I chose budget shipping because there was no rush to get this by a certain date. Choose from Express, Priority or Standard as well. They have a handy little calculator where you input the date of creation and get an estimate for when it will arrive.

For reference, I ordered the book on April 29, it was shipped on May 6 and received on May 10.

The book was packaged well and arrived in pristine condition. No smooshed corners, scratched covers or wrinkled pages.

Pricing

Books start at $9.99. Mixbook always has deals going on, too!

You can get $25 off a $50 purchase with free shipping by using this link.

Summary

I am really happy with how this turned out and it makes a great coffee table book!

  • The quality is very high! It’s very sturdy.
  • The shipping was relatively fast considering it is a custom product.
  • The photos turned out clear and crisp. This will depend on the quality of photos you submit as well.
  • The pages feel substantial – not like you are going to rip them while flipping through.
  • It’s a beautiful keepsake and would make a great gift!
